Ultimate 1.2 Hours of Being Alone PLAYLIST

Sorry for not updating this lately, Arthur and I have been busy working on a whopping 4 new songs, as well as arranging everything we've done prior in preparation for recording our EP this Winter... And we're still looking for a bassist, though right now it looks like I'll be covering everything but part of the keyboards which will be predominantly Arthur's domain, anyways so it's not like we're in a hurry.

Without further adieu, I give you my first playlist for you!

1. Cymbal Rush (live on Henry Rollins program) by Thom Yorke feat. Jonny Greenwood
2. Novena Without Faith by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
3. All World Cowboy Romance by Mission of Burma
4. Red-Eye by The Album Leaf
5. The Supine by Andrew Bird
6. Swallowtail (live) by The Brian Jonestown Massacre
7. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun by Pink Floyd
8. The Wrong Coat For You Mt. Heart Attack by Liars
9. Louven by Shipping News
10. Go Slowly by Radiohead

You Need To Get This Album

I got Shipping News' 3/4 on vinyl right before I came back out to Washington and after waiting nearly a month for my record player to come in the mail, I've finally gotten to play it. It comes on two disks, compiles their first couple EP's, and clocks in at just over an hour, easily an hour well spent. It begins with "Sickening Bridge Versus Horrible Bed", which might be the albums weakest track. It begins with a gently strummed acoustic guitar and gradually builds to include a meandering slide guitar and multi-tracked vocals, similar in theory to Elliott Smith's trademark vocal recording style. My favorite tracks are "Haunted on Foot" and "We Start To Drift". "Haunted on Foot" revolves around a basic guitar chord using the other instruments to build the intensity. The vocals sound especially haunting. "We Start To Drift" might be one of the greatest songs ever. It features a pulsing sub-bass synth and minimalist drums. The vocals are sparse and show Jeff Mueler (or Jason Noble, I'm not sure who sang on this track) at his most vulnerable. Literally a tear jerker of a song. "Paper Lanterns" appears on "3/4", as well as "Flies the Fields". This version features a driving bass with a more sample based accompaniment instead of "Flies the Fields" atmospherics-easing into a bass groove-easing into guitar cacophony. Anways, you should get this album, it's amazing. Rumor has it that they are coming out with a new album next year, I cannot wait.

Le Voyeur and Edmonds

Arthur and I are done with our latest slew of shows, starting last week down here in Olympia, and ending this weekend in Edmonds. These hopefully will be our last shows as a duo, as we've begun looking for a bass player. We managed to record our show up in Edmonds, and I'm working on making sense of the mix... my guitar sounds terrible... ack EQ-ing is no fun. Anyways, I'll be putting a few tunes up on our MySpace sometime soon, so keep checking back.
